Rarely do city dwellers experience pure space, with a sense of being completely enveloped, with nothing on the horizon. Being separated from society, away from its sense of scale, paradoxically makes us feel human. Stripped naked of society's trappings allows us to understand our finite nature contrasted against the continuum of Earth's time. Within solitude comes a deeper understanding of our planet.
